Breathe Easy, Live Easy: Dr. Abhinav Bannerjee’s Poetic Reflection on Life, Health, and Healing

“Breath Easy, Live Easy” — By Dr. Abhinav Banerjee

I have listened to the lungs at break of day,

Where fragile breaths in quiet battles stay.

Each rising chest, each pause between the sound,

Tells stories deeper than the scans I’ve found.

Breath is the oath we take the day we’re born,

A silent vow renewed each night and morn.

We waste it fast on haste, on smoke, on fear,

Yet still it comes back, loyal, pure, and clear.

I’ve seen the air turn thin with creeping pain,

And watched machines replace what lungs can’t gain.

In sterile rooms where hope feels hard to reach,

A single breath becomes the soul’s last speech.

The lungs remember all we fail to say,

The dust of youth, the tears we lock away.

They hold the weight of grief we never show,

And secrets only breath is meant to know.

When patients ask me, “Doctor, will I heal?”

I read their pulse, but also what they feel.

For healing lives beyond the drug and dose,

It rests where calm and careful living grows.

Disease is not the only way we choke,

We drown in stress, in silence, and in smoke.

We clutch our worries tight against the chest,

And starve the breath that longs to do its best.

So I advise what charts cannot convey:

Slow down your life. Learn how to walk, not race.

Inhale as if the world is not at war,

Exhale the weight you were not meant to store.

Live easy too—let kindness set the pace,

Let rest appear without a hint of shame.

Choose love that does not tighten when it stays,

Choose days that leave your lungs enough of space.

I’ve watched a final breath slip soft and kind,

A gentle closing of the body’s mind.

It leaves without a sound, without a plea,

Teaching how sacred every breath can be.

If I could write one cure for humankind,

It wouldn’t fit in textbooks I’ve designed.

It would read simply, honest, and precise:

Protect your breath, and guard your life’s device.

For life’s true wealth is not in length or gain,

But how the breath moves freely through your frame.

So hear these words from one who’s seen disease:

Breathe easy still—

and live your life at ease.
