Sharing and Caring; a week of charity at The Global Indian International School Ahmedabad

Students of The GIIS Ahmedabad participate in Joy of Giving Week

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India]: This week The Global Indian International School Ahmedabad organized a ‘Joy of Giving’ activity for its students to inculcate among them the practice of sharing with the less fortunate. It was a moment for the students to understand what it means to give with a pure heart and to share your joy with others.

During this activity, children were encouraged to create a Gullak at home where in they could contribute chocolates, money, toys, biscuits, stationery, and books to distribute among the less privileged. The children were accompanied by their parents who captured the special moments exchanged during this trip. Along with this parents were also encouraged to play indigenous sports like kabbadi, kho-kho, Gilli-Danda, Kancha, and Hopscotch.

Other sets of activities that were included were Dil ki suno aur kuch karo, an activity wherein parents who were keen on contributing essentials such as rice, moong dal, clothes, toys, etc. joined together to distribute it in the slum areas. They were also accompanied by the student council and teachers. “The Joy of Giving activity was essentially organized to teach the students the true meaning of charity. It doesn’t always have to only be in the form of money. Teaching them to share whatever they have with the less fortunate, to spark that joy of giving among them at a young age is very important. At GIIS Ahmedabad we aim at developing strong yet compassionate leaders for the future. This activity was a real eye-opener for the students and they truly enjoyed the spirit of giving and spending time with people from different backgrounds”, says Caesar D’silva, Principal, Global Indian International School (GIIS) Ahmedabad.

The Joy of Giving activity ended on a high note at the school campus as the students got an opportunity to not only bond with their teachers and parents, but also learned the true meaning of giving and sharing, and humility.
