Hyderabad, Telangana : This is the biggest vaccine drive ever organised on a single day anywhere in the world said  Dr G.Srinivas Rao, Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Telangana who was the Chief Guest at the Mega Vaccine Drive organised jointly by Cyberabad Police, SCSC(The Society for Cyberabad Security Council) and Medicover.

Kickstarting the Vaccination Drive and addressing the few select gatherings, Dr G. Srinivas Rao who is spearheading Covid Care in the state stated that Covid will be under control and we get back to the pre-second wave situation in just a few days. But, a word of caution, the protective gear that all of you have been following for some time must also continue and there shouldn’t be any laxity. Covid also behaves in proportion to our behaviour. So better be careful he told

If we have reached this position not just because of Health Care Professionals but also the police for maintaining strict lockdown. I haven’t ever seen the health care department working so closely with the police, the Senior official of the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare said.

We have inoculated 52 lakh people in the Telangana state so far. Our target is to vaccinate the 2.75 crore population of the state. That means we need 5.5 crore jabs. We have over 1000 Vaccination centres across the state. In the coming days, we will be able to vaccinate ten lakh people in a single day. If the private sector also joins we will be able to vaccinate 12 to 13 lakh people every day. With 2.75 crores to be vaccinated, we will be able to vaccinate the entire state in just 30 days Dr G. Srinivas Rao told the people assembled.

Vaccines will be beneficial in 3 ways. One once you are fully vaccinated you are protected 90%, two even if you contract the virus after fully vaccinating it will be mild and hospitalisation may not be required. The third benefit is after your full vaccination you are a safe person to deal with. You will not spread the virus. That is why we appeal to all to go and get vaccinated. Once we vaccinate 70 per cent of the population we can witness herd immunity, he said.

Vaccines are safe and 90% of vaccinated do not develop any reactions. The remaining 10% if develops any reaction it will be quite normal. The people who are inoculated need not follow any dietary restrictions. They can be normal, he said. Dr Rao lauded the efforts of Mr VC Sajjnar, Police Commissioner of Cyberabad for all his efforts in facilitating the mega vaccine drive to secure lives.

Govind Hari, General Secretary of Telangana Super Speciality Hospitals Association (TSSHA) appreciated Medicover for their initiative, excellent arrangements. It is a Vaccine Mela similar to Kumbh Mela he said and suggested that unless we organise vaccine drives on a large scale like this one, we will not be able to address the issue of vaccinating the majority population of our nation he said. He appealed to other super speciality hospitals to also try to replicate dives like this to cover the maximum possible population in the least possible time. Once we do this, we need not worry about any more waves. He also suggested that more super speciality hospitals in the city must come forward and organise similar camps in four other corners of the city, including the old city.

There are some hospitals coming forward to organise a similar drive in a function hall in the old city. I appeal to NGOs and Hospitals to join the hands of TSSHA in organising mega vaccination drives.

Mr Arekepudi Gandhi, MLA, Sherlingampally said vaccination is a social responsibility. My vaccination protects you and you protect me. Together we must defeat Corona from the universe. I am pleased to have an officer like Mr VC Sajjnar who goes beyond the call of his duty and helps people with many services in these troubled times.

It is a wrong notion people have about vaccine, why to take it when Second Wave is slowing down: Mr VC Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad.

That is not right. Irrespective of cases, people must go and get vaccinated at the earliest possible time. He described the mega drive as the first of its kind in the world, vaccinating spreading fast. Similarly, we must vaccinate people faster than the spread of the vaccine to fight it out, he said. Though vaccination was supposed to begin from 8 am, people started coming down right from the morning at 6 am. Though we were not ready still we managed to vaccinate them without holding them and sent them back at the earliest possible time. People were under the wrong impression that the stock might get over, so they came much before their allocated time slot. This has created a mild traffic jam for some time but the able police could manage the situation. We have deployed almost 5000 police on this job, Mr Sajjanar informed.

Krishna Yedula, Secretary-General of SCSC said that they took the help of technology to manage such a large number of people in the least possible time. It was a paperless, touchless, cashless and contactless vaccination drive. People could get jabbed in just 5 to 10 minutes without waiting in long queues. It was possible because of pre-registration, pre-online payment. All they had to do was to scan the QR code and proceed for the jab. It is like Must come and just go. Everything happens so fast.

In this race, we must compete with corona, run faster and vaccinate faster than the speed of its spread, then only we check it out and throw it out of our lives, said Krishna Yedula.

Hari Krishna, Executive Director, Medicover Group of Hospitals India said this idea of mass vaccination was in our minds long before the vaccines were made available. Today by the time of the formal inauguration of the drive we have vaccinated 11000 people of 18 years and above. By morning we had 36,000 registrations.

By the end of the day, we will surpass 40,000 vaccinations.

To manage this we have booked 3 halls at Hitex. One hall is exclusively reserved for senior citizens. People availed of Covaxin some their second dose and many their first dose. We had 300 vaccination stations in all the three halls put together. We have pressed into the service of 700 nurses. We arranged a 5-bed emergency facility in case of any exigencies. We have kept 10 ambulances ready to transport any emergency patients to the hospitals. 300 admin staff of Medicover and 150 volunteers from SCSC facilities the smooth management of vaccinating the biggest number of people on the globe in a single day in a single venue.

We are happy we were able to do this with the support of everyone. Looking at the response, we would like to continue these drives at the same venues as well as in other cities/states–Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Ms Swarajya Lakshmi, DMHO, Ranga Reddy District praised Mr VC Sajjanar for always coming forward with many useful programs to society. I am happier than anyone else as this is happening in our Ranga Reddy District.

This is the need of the hour as this place is densely populated.

The Mega vaccination drive held on Sunday from 8 am to 9 pm at Hitex, Madhapur, Hyderabad

40,000 people are vaccinated by evening by the time this report is filed. It was a joint initiative of Cyberabad Police, SCSC and Medicover. The entire event was planned and executed in just 7 days. Near 1650 people–nurses, doctors, volunteers, admin staff and police to put up this mega vaccination drive which Dr Gadala Srinivas Rao, Director of Public Health, Govt of Telangana termed as the World’s Largest Single-Day Single Venue Vaccination Drive Vaccinating 40,000 people.

Different time slots were allocated all through the day. Nursing stations were set up for Lactating Mothers. An emergency ward with 5 beds in each hall and Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided for Guests who come for the Vaccination.

The objective of this drive is to inoculate the maximum number of people in the tri-city—Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad. This drive was held in the safest environment strictly observing CAB-Covid Appropriate Behavior and Protocols. This has not only set a trend but motivated more people to organize such a drive to vaccinate the maximum population in the least possible time to fight impending waves if any.

While many are flocking to vaccine centers, because of the increased awareness due to the Second Wave still a large section of people are hesitating to get jabbed. This drive also motivated those who are still in dilemma. Camps like this will send a strong message and will also give them confidence that it is safe to take the vaccine.

This Mega Vaccination Drive is another feather in the cap of Cyberabad Police, SCSC who is known for many mega drives like this. Vaccination is the best weapon available to equip the public to fight Covid.

Dr Anil Krishna, MD; Dr Sharath Reddy, Executive Director; Mr Neeraj Lal, Group Sr. VP; Mr Madish Deglokar, Chief Business Officer of Medicover Group and Mr Veankteshwarlu, DCP, Madhapur and others graced the inaugural ceremony of the Vaccination of Drive.
